Internet Marketing - Advantages and Disadvantages

Everyone seems to be jumping on the internet marketing bandwagon lately. In the race to get their business online, many successful businesses forget to ask themselves some tough questions about what they are doing, what their expectations are and what their plan is to meet those expectations.

The internet can be a powerful tool that can put you on solid footing with bigger companies. On the other hand, the other companies may have more money to pay for advertising. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind as you analyze your internet marketing strategy.

Marketing

Advantage of Internet Marketing

Internet Marketing - Advantages and Disadvantages

- your store is open, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Further, your customers are worldwide in reach, and can shop anytime that they want to

- the cost of spreading your message is next to nothing. Emailing your subscription base is more oftne cheaper than sending a letter through the mail

- updating your subscribers can be done almost instantly through email. Visitors to your website can get up to the minute information on each visit. If you are having a sale, your customers can start shopping at the discounted prices literally as soon as they open their email

- if you have an information sensitive business, such as a law firm, newspaper or online magazine, you can deliver your products directly to your customers without having to use a courier

Disadvantages of Internet Marketing

- online marketing is not free. The cost of software, hardware, wed site design, maintenance of your site, online distribution costs and of course, time, all must be factored into the cost of providing your service or product.

- slightly over 50% of households shop online. While that number will continue to grow, you are reaching less than two out of three households.

- the internet is still regarded as a source of information gathering for the majority of your customers. Of the number of visitors to your site, the vast majority of visitors who are motivated to buy will do so in person. Many people prefer the live interaction when they buy. If you have a small business with one location, this may deter customers from buying.

- easier to have outdated information on your site, thus timing of updates is critical

- there is no replacement for good old fashioned customer service. The majority of internet marketers lack customer service and inquiry response programs. As a result, many online visitors to your site will already have painted your site as poor service before they have even contacted you. The majority of websites also have poor navigation, which makes it difficult for your visitor to find what they are looking for. Many sites were created with a marketing view, not a customer service point of view.

- is your site secure? Does your customer know this? There are many incorrect stereotypes about the security of the internet out there. As a result, many of your visitors will not want to use their credit card to make a purchase. The fear of having their credit card info stolen is a clear and present danger in the minds of your visitors

- there is a lot of competition for your product already out there. By the time your visitor finds you, they have already been clicking many links. Unless they can find what they are looking for quickly, they are gone.

- many web visitors expect something for free. What do you have to offer them?

There are many other pros and cons of internet marketing. Its important for you to consider each when creating your internet marketing strategy. Each of the disadvantages can be overcome, but only if you view the customer experience from the eyes of your customer, not as an internet marketer.

Internet Marketing - Free Marketing Wisdom

If you're a one-man operation in your internet business, chances are, you are doing all of the marketing yourself. You see with large corporations, they have different departments that can handle each aspect of an online business. They have a marketing department, a purchasing department, an IT department, a customer service department, and etc. It's definitely tough trying to operate against a large corporation like this if you're a one-man team.

But fret not. While the major corporations my have million dollar advertising budgets... you can get crafty with your marketing also, and still have a successful business without spending a lot of money on things. What am I talking about here? Well, I'm talking about FREE marketing.

Marketing

Now before you start your rant about how ineffective free marketing is, let me tell you that it just flat out works... over time. Sure advertising can bring you traffic within a matter of hours, but if you're new... you will have to figure out how much you can afford to go negative on a new customer. How much your next product price will be when selling to your backend customers. And what the lifetime average value of a customer is in your business.

With free marketing, these things are important, but you don't have to shell out any money for it. You can earn 100% free profits, and when done long enough, you can have a thriving business that just makes you a lot of money - without the expense of paying for a new customer.

And when you couple this with a backend marketing strategy, you're sales will skyrocket. Free marketing definitely does work, and it doesn't take a long time to see the results that you are looking for from it. There are all kinds of free marketing techniques out there on the internet, but I personally like the idea of generating referrals.

This is like driving traffic without doing anything. Imagine if you have 100 people sending you referrals each and everyday. For 1, these referrals will more than likely have some sort of affinity to the niche. So their chances of buying things from you will more than likely be high.

Another free way to get traffic is with blogging. I personally enjoy blogging. It's my own space where I can share my ideas and connect with my readers all at the same time. It's a very powerful marketing medium. Some people's businesses revolve all around blogging. They've made it their main staple of their internet business.

When starting off with your blog, you will want to strive to write 1 new blog post per day. Make each post around 400-500 words long, and really give your readers a pleasurable experience when reading your information. Some people will leave comments on your blog. Interact with them and begin to build a following. All of this can happen with a blog.

Don't skimp on free marketing because it does work. It's not as fast as paid advertising, but you can definitely use it to get you more sales.

Good luck with using free marketing in your online business today.

Internet Marketing - Why Every Business Should Be Using Internet Marketing

Many traditional businesses are still not using internet marketing, yet wonder why they are not growing their businesses this year. Perhaps they blame it on the recession, but the fact of the matter is that if you do not have a presence on the internet, you cannot hope to have substantial growth this year or at all in your future. The internet has become a necessity to our society.

If you have any doubt as to why you should be using internet marketing, think about your own habits. When was the last time you looked something up in the yellow pages? How often do you order from the internet rather than going out on a shopping trip? The same thing that motivates you motivates your customers.

Marketing

If you can take your business online, you should be doing so. If you have a website that is just sitting there doing nothing, you need to be promoting it. Most internet marketing methods are free or low cost, and you will not see nearly as much success with your other more expensive marketing tactics. If you have a small business, you can easily have yourself and your few employees trained in internet marketing skills and perform the tasks during downtime from regular business activities.

There is hardly an individual, and doubtfully a single business, in America without internet access. There are actually more people with access to the internet than access to a phone. Some people assume that anyone worth talking to can be reached online or through VoIP. If your business cannot be found online, you're not reaching your target market.

The Six Keys to Internet Marketing Success

Starting an online business involves work in this respect it's no different from an off-line business you wouldn't expect to set up a bricks and mortar business from scratch and their to be little or no work involved. There is a tendency out there to assume that wealth and riches come easily just because you're online but it's better to start from the assumption you will have to work and solve problems, this way your expectations won't be ludicrously unrealistic.

As with any off-line business there are fundamental principles which apply and if you adhere to them you will increase your chances of success enormously. Follow these simple rules and you will make it into the 2% of Internet marketers who make a very good living online and who knows from there you may well make it into the elite circle who truly make a colossal income online.

Marketing

1) The correct mindset. You have to believe in yourself and what's more you have to truly believe that you are worthy of success, too many people sabotage their own success through negative thinking don't be one of them. Remember if you can't believe in your own ability who will? And as a marketer when you try to sell your products or services why should they believe you? So it's imperative that you have a tough mental attitude with the self-confidence of somebody who knows they will succeed come what may.

2) Building relationships. Working online can be quite lonely sat in front of your computer for long hours it's possible to think that you're the only person in the world who is doing this but the reality is of course there are thousands of other marketers out there in cyberspace doing exactly the same. And it's important that you connect with them and build relationships which will help your business in the future, no man is an island it has been said and this is very true online. Building relationships with other marketers even if they're not actual joint-venture partners will help you get through the difficult periods which we all go through. From a morale boosting perspective it's important to have people to talk to when things aren't going quite as you planned. Some of these relationships will develop into partnerships where you can both leverage your knowledge and resources to achieve even greater success online.

3) Developing a system and sticking to it. Success in any business especially an online one is about having a system that works and once you have it sticking with it and then scaling it. The big mistake new Internet marketers often make is that they try one system which they've bought and before they have put in the work and effort necessary to see the returns they move on to the next surefire system of making a fortune online. The key to success is focus, you need to select one system initially which suits your skills this could be article marketing or video marketing or something else and then put all your effort into it until you start seeing returns and profits generated. Only then do you move on to another system, new systems are constantly being launched online and it's important that you don't get distracted by the next shiny object.

4) Time management. This is a crucial factor in your online success too many marketers waste their time checking their e-mails checking their stats chatting with forum members before you know it the day is over and you have little to show for it. Have a things to do list which you should write down before you go to bed, the next day start on your list and don't move on from one task until you've completed it then move on down the list until you accomplished everything you were planning to do. This way you focus on your priority tasks and gradually over time you'll make progress in your business.

5) Education. Continually learning about all aspects of Internet marketing should be a major goal, you need to educate yourself about what's happening online the latest developments in traffic generation new plug-ins and what the top marketers are doing. This way you will keep abreast of the competition and who knows you may even be able to come up with some groundbreaking method yourself, but even if you don't knowledge is power and nowhere is this statement truer than online. Learn study and then apply the knowledge these are the keys to becoming a marketing star.

6) A mentor. Many hugely successful people have said that this was the turning point in their careers and at some point sooner rather than later it is advisable to choose somebody who is more successful than yourself to be your own personal mentor. Just make sure they are the real deal do your due diligence and make sure they are successful as the hype makes out, once you're convinced that this is the person you want to emulate approached them and find out if they have a personal mentoring program. This may well be expensive as their time is valuable however learning from the best can often be the single most valuable investment you will ever make.

Internet Marketing for Beginners - the Do's and the Don'ts

Internet marketing is really only as complicated as you make it. The real definition of internet marketing is selling online, getting your product or website out there to be seen. There are so many different ways that you can accomplish this. However, some of the ways are better than others, and some of them, well, you should just not use. You can end up blacklisted, have your IP banned, and other things you want to avoid. Let us take a look at a few different internet-marketing techniques and discuss the right and the wrong way to accomplish these tasks.

Message Board Posting Posting on a message board is a great way to get your website and products seen. You simply place a link to your site in your signature and post on relevant topics that you know about and that concern your business. However, there is definitely a right way and wrong way to do this. Below is a list of the things you should avoid when using message boards as a part of your internet marketing:

Marketing

· Telling people to look at your website or click on your link

· Spamming message boards with ads for your website

· Spamming other members with private messages about your website or business

As you can see, these things will get you in trouble really fast on a message board. First of all, there is no need to tell people to click on or look at your website if it is in your signature. People are nosey by nature, and when you make a post, and you know what you are talking about, they will automatically click on your link and check out your business.

Many message boards have sections for their members to place ads. If you want to place an ad on a message board, be sure that it is in an ad-approved section. Otherwise, you will find your posts deleted, and you might end up banned from the site.

Sending unsolicited messages to other members in private can even get you in loads of trouble. Never send messages to other members of a message board unless they have asked you for more info.

Sending Out Mass Emails When sending out mass emails, there is a right way and a wrong way to do this as well when you are internet marketing. Make sure that all of the emails that you are sending are to people that have requested them. They have opted in so to speak and that means that they are an actual lead. Scraping the internet for email addresses of just anyone and sending out your emails to those that did not request is a good way to get in trouble online. Spam is something that many do not tolerate, so be sure that you avoid it.

To be sure that you are sending out emails to those that want it, always have a link in your email so that the recipient can unsubscribe from them. In other words, if the person you are sending emails to does not want to receive them any longer, they will be able to be taken off your email list.

Be Careful Where You Get Your Leads From There are so many people online selling leads for any type of business and company. If you are interested in buying leads, make sure that you buy from someone that is well known for giving great leads. While every lead list that you come across will have a few duds on it. There are some reputable people online that do sell good leads. Find them; ask your internet-marketing friends for recommendations of where to buy leads. Word of mouth is your best resource.
